Social Dynamics Of Leading A Team

An important element that determines the success of a team/group is the leader and his personality. The leader must be someone who understands the workings and rules governing the social dynamics as concerning communication skills. This is because even if all the members of the team are professionals and the team leader does not have the right communication skill there will be
chaos and nothing will be achieved. The group will still fail for lack of better working tools and materials to move their team forward. Below are some things that the group leader must take into consideration within the team.
  1. The group team leader must ensure to take into consideration all ideas of the group members. He does not necessarily have to follow all the ideas but he must first show the courtesy of accepting them. This is because there are no two ideas that are same no matter how similar they may seem to be.
  2. Whatever idea that the team leader has, it must not be forced down the throat of the members. No matter how good and foreseeable the idea may seem to be.
  3. Everyone in the group must participate by contributing to the agenda that is on the floor of the group. This is the only way that members will feel relevant in the group.
  4. The final decision to go with a particular idea must be a collective idea. This is the only way that the actual desired result will be gotten. Because if any member feels that his input was overlooked, that individual will not participate actively. The main points in every team member's idea must be added to the final draft of the idea.
The group consists of more of everything that an individual will use i.e. more hands to be on deck for the execution of the job and more brains to analyse the job. Despite this obvious advantage it still does not make it easier for the person running the helm of affairs to make decisions. The most difficult thing to manage is individuals and the team leader must master this managerial skill effectively to have the desired result from the team. Due to the large number of the people in the team, decision making will take longer than normal and everyone will love to contribute his own quota to the discussion. Every member of the team must be given room to speak and air his views.
